What we doINTRODUCTION
When you first arrive at Kip&Kaboodle, a short grooming, medical and behavioural history of your dog will be taken. This is very important to both the safety and comfort of the dog and the groomer. Whilst you are present your dog will be examined to check the condition of the skin and the coat. This is the time when you, as the owner, can tell us what you would like done and your expectations of the end result. Matted coats Experience has shown that it is sometimes necessary to shave a dog close to get rid of heavy matting. It is important that the owner is aware of this beforehand and understands that it is a last rather than first resort. If possible enough top coat will be left to 'disguise' the shaved parts. Although the end result may look a bit drastic it does mean the owner can hopefully manage the coat to prevent the matts reoccuring. BATHING Unless otherwise instructed, all dogs will be bathed prior to grooming. Very thick coats may be rough cut first. WHY Health and comfort of the dog: regular dirt removal, medicated and/or flea treatment Not only is it 'nice' for him, it also makes it easier on the dog, the groomer and the equipment if the coat is clean. DRYING Drying is done using a blaster/dryer which can be time comsuming but is the preferred method, safer for the dog than a cabinet. WHY Removes loose hair, makes it easier to groom. GROOMING The coat will be totally dematted, untangled, brushed and combed. Any mats or long hair will be removed from between the pads and nails may be cut as necessary. WHY Coat maintenance for dog, customer satisfaction CLIPPING Dependent on the owners wishes the coat will be clipped 'all off' or to style. Feet and ears will be done and nails may be clipped. WHY Coat maintenance and comfort for dog, customer satisfaction. EARS +FEET Checking the ears and feet is an integral part of any groom. WHY Excess hair will be plucked from inside the ear and the ear carefully cleaned. Nails, including dew claws should be kept at a length which will cause no dicomfort for the dog. Mats between the pads can be incomfortable and may cause the dog to chew or lick his feet excessively. HAND STRIPPING This will only be done if the coat is ready to be stripped. WHY If the coat is not easy to pull then the experience will be uncomfortable for the dog. If the coat is ready then removing the dead hair allows the new coat to grow in. |
